Background
Mineral Resources Park is home to West Coast's WAFL and AFLW football, and the club has always been early to new football technology. Focus AV was brought in to bring that thinking to game day itself — LED screens and an iPad scoring system that put match information, stats and highlights in front of the crowd.

The challenge
An outdoor screen has nowhere to hide. It has to stay readable in direct Perth sun, from every part of the ground, at any time of day.
The screen also had to be carried 8.5 metres above ground level on a structure capable of holding it, and then handed to club staff who need to run it on game day without an AV technician standing beside them.

The solution
A 9 × 5 metre viewing area sits 8.5 metres above the ground. It uses Vuepix MV Series outdoor panels at 7.8mm pixel pitch and 8000nit brightness, which is what keeps content alive rather than washed out when the sun is on it.
Focus AV built the scoreboard alongside a local metal fabrication contractor, from the foundations up through to the control system. Visuals and scoring are driven remotely from a dedicated iPad interface.
West Coast Eagles IT staff and key users were trained in depth on the system, with ongoing assistance from Focus AV to tailor the control interface as new requirements come up.

The outcome
Up-to-the-minute match information, stats and highlights now run on the big screen through game day, and the panels hold their picture regardless of glare or where the sun sits.
Control stays with the club. Staff change what's on the screen from the iPad, and the interface keeps being adapted as the club finds new uses for it.
