Background
Newmont Australia engaged Focus AV to deliver the audio visual fitout for their new Brisbane office — large conference and town hall spaces, mid-sized meeting rooms, huddle rooms and shared work areas.
The brief was technology staff could depend on for both in-person and hybrid collaboration, across a spread of room sizes, delivered and project managed from our base in Perth.
02
The challenge
The office was designed around modular, movable furniture. Layouts that change do not suit fixed table boxes and fixed microphone positions, so mic placement, cable management and connection points all had to work in more than one arrangement.
Audio had to hold up consistently from a town hall space down to a huddle room — very different volumes, very different treatment. Speech privacy in the open shared areas was the related problem, and Newmont also wanted digital signage running across the office to keep staff informed.
Running the job from Perth meant the planning had to be right before anyone was on site.

The solution
Equipment was matched to room size rather than repeated everywhere.
- Large conference and town hall spaces: Samsung LED displays, Cisco conferencing, Shure array microphones, Yamaha line-array speakers and Q-SYS DSP handling room audio.
- Mid-sized and smaller rooms: Biamp EasyConnect for direct laptop connection, with Crestron video distribution so the rooms stay flexible in use.
- Throughout the office: digital signage displays with managed content for internal communications.
Acoustic treatment and sound masking were applied across the key areas — treatment to control reflections in the meeting spaces so microphones pick up voices rather than the room, masking to protect speech privacy in the open plan.

The outcome
Staff get the same quick, predictable connection in every space, and audio quality holds whether it is a full town hall or four people in a huddle room. Furniture can be moved without the AV becoming unusable.
Acoustic treatment and sound masking have made the shared areas measurably more comfortable to work in and conversations harder to overhear from the next desk. Signage keeps internal communications visible across the floor. The whole fitout was delivered to plan from Perth.
